he American Medallic Sculpture Association will celebrate the
new millennium with a show of reliefs and medals entitled “AMSA 2000.” The show, an international juried competition and exhibition, opens at the QCC Art Gallery at Queensborough Community College of the City University of New York. From Queens, the medals portion of the show travels first to Iola, Wisconsin, to be included in the Fortieth Anniversary Convention of the Numismatics of Wisconsin. From Iola, the show will continue on to the Villa Terrace Decorative
Arts Museum in Milwaukee.
Now in its seventeenth year, AMSA once again takes the lead in promoting the art of the medal. The Association represents a diverse and gifted membership whose work exemplifies the notion of present- ing an art medium, in hand, that will impact the 21st century and beyond. It is our mission to cultivate an appreciation of medallic art throughout the international community, by sponsoring lectures, demonstrations, and symposiums open to the general public. Our student membership stands as a vital force in the development of AMSA, providing spirit and vitality. Our distinguished jurors — Philip Listengart, Mashiko, and Faustino Quintanilla — have chosen what we
believe to be the ultimate in the field of medallic art and we are
extremely grateful for their hard work and expertise in jurying such a
diverse and unique show.
The AMSA Board of Directors offer their thanks to exhibition Chair Jackie Lorieo, who, assisted by Yefkin Megherian, Ann Pollack and Peggy Christie, has helped make this project evolve into reality. We also want to express our appreciation to George Cuhaj and Virginia Janssen
for their efforts in setting up the second and third venues.
Finally, on behalf of the membership of AMSA I offer my thanks to Interim President Howard Lapidus and the Board of Directors of the Queensborough Community College Fund, Inc. for giving us the opportunity to hold this exhibit. Without their support, generosity and
cooperation, this reality would have remained only a dream.
—ANNETTE NEEDLE, PRESIDENT, AMSA
